Life With Boys - 3 thumbs

My daughter made dinner last night and that same son who says things like "thrice" looked at her and said, "You know what I would do if I had 3 thumbs?" "Uh, no, what?" "I would wish for another so I could give your food 4 thumbs up!"

Life with Boys

My very young son who is finally putting sentences together settled into his bathtub tonight and said,

"Ah, this is all I need. A boat, a cup, and my duck."

Is this kid mine?

My 7 year old nonchalantly tossed a Rubik's Cube at me and said, "I just solved this thrice in a row."

Rubik's Cube?

Thrice?

Life with Boys

Before Christmas my girls were sick.

After Christmas my boys have been sick.

The girls make it to the bathroom.

The boys make it to the kitchen, or worse, living room floor.

Here, let me make it easier for you to reach the rug.

Life With Boys

I never ever ever thought I would ever ever ever have to utter the phrase,

"If I ever see you jumping off of a chair with a cello again..."

Life with Boys

Overheard as the boys were cleaning their room,

"Oh look!  I found my lucky Lego!"

Life with Boys - Making a Telegraph

My son was trying to make a telegraph the other day and it wasn't working out too well.  One of the pieces got really hot (not too hot to burn flesh, though.  relax.) and he needed my help.  Good thing I have a pretend electrical engineering degree because I looked at his set-up and had some words of wisdom:

Mother Crab: Nope, I can't help you. Wait until Father Crab gets home.  He loves stuff like this.
Son: Hmmm
Mother Crab: You're not going to set fire to the house, are you?
Son: No. Well, at least I don't think so.

Hey Ma! Watch what happens when I do this!

Life with Boys - A Laboratory

I have a son who has an engineer's mind.

One day he came up to me and said, "Mom, is there a room in the house that we aren't using?"  I looked at him and thought, "We have 5 kids sleeping in one room. Does he not see this?"  I responded, "No, not that I have noticed.  Why?" He then said to me, "I just need a room where I can do my projects and inventions."

"Son, we call that a laboratory and I don't think we have an extra room for that right now."

Just another day with the boys.

Life with Boys. Olé.

Yesterday my son had something he really needed to tell me:

Son:  Mom, you know that girl who was really mean to me that one time at tennis?  The one who called me an idiot?

Mother Crab: Of course, I remember, my darling little boy. How could I ever forget the wrongs that you have encountered?  I AM Italian, don't you forget.

Son: Well, she was much nicer at the last class.

Mother Crab: Oh? How did you become friends?

Son: We talked about tacos.

Life with Boys

You might be raising your kids wrong when you hear:

Unnamed YOUNG Boy:  OK, I want to play pirate.  You go over there and pretend you've found the treasure and booty.  Not the shake, shake, shake kind, but jewels and stuff.

Circus Shaped Waffles and Life with Boys

My daughter, Miss Gluten Free, is presently making her own waffles with gluten free Bisquick in the kitchen.  Of course, everyone is crowding around her and I am making suggestions and asking questions from the living room such as, "Don't get burned! Don't catch on fire! Are you studying your Chronology while you're doing this?"

Circus Shaped means waffles that are SUPPOSED to look like elephants, lions and, shudder, clowns.

We like 'em extra crispy around here.

A beautiful gluten free elephant if I ever saw one.

Boy: Well, I just burned my finger on the waffle iron.
Mom: I told you not to touch it!  If you burnt it, you need to put ice on it.
Boy: I didn't really burn it.
Mom: You can't say things like that!  It's not funny!
Boy: (in a sort of sing-song voice) I'm not laughing.

Life with Boys

Overheard at the breakfast table,

"Good porridge, Mama Bear."

No monsters here

Yesterday I was thoroughly cleaning my kids' room.  I was being so thorough that I was under one of the bunk beds vacuuming.  Not an easy feat.  However, it was worth it because not only did I get all of the dust up with my new, awesome vacuum, but I glanced up to see this:

What could that be trapped under the mattress?

"What is it?" you may ask.  Well, let me zoom in for you so that you can get the close-up that I did.

Grrrr!

And, that, my friends, is life with boys!

Life with Boys

The other day I overheard,

"Wouldn't it be great if beer came from cows?"

Life with boys.

I never thought I would walk into my bathroom and find a sword on the floor. Never.
